"SELFLESSNESS": More Magical Palindromes

SATIRE COMPOSED: Giorgio Coniglio/ Dr GH, November 2019.
An extensive series of our recent posts highlighted maps that displayed targets for palindromic utterances about the world and its major cities. And in the process of doing this, we rediscovered our previous concept of "'Magical Palindromes". You can get into this delightful world or wordplay by checking out the most recent posts in that series, "Magical Canal Palindromes", " Unplanned Canal Palindromes", and  "Magical Palindromes -- Beyond Canals" and .
The aim of the current blog is to extend these concepts in the spirit of the holidays, using a word that has been pivotal in the development of palindromes -- selfless.
You might also want to review the comments by our band of spoofing contributing palindromists, in response to the challenge of spoofing the classic palindromic phrase "Ma is as selfless as I am."

If you need help with the concept of magical palindromes, see the slide at the bottom of the post; it shows some simple examples which help you get the idea.

DEC 19, 2021:North American ANAGRAM SWARMS -- 'R-E-P-U-B-L-I-C-A-N V-O-T-E-R-S' (Canadian version)

To start, here's a review of 'wordplay maps' for the American locales implicated in this anagram swarm, previously posted. Considering the large number of entries on each map, a rather small font was required, so remember that all you have to do to expand an image is to click on it. (And, remember that to get out of expanded mode, you will need to click on the little 'x' in the upper right hand corner.)

And now for the Canadian sites ...

These locales are designated in a more formal internationally used format, with the national designation (the two-letter abbreviation 'CA' for Canada) at the end of each locale (town + province). Interesting comparisons can be made with the initial map that focused on American (U.S.) locales, and used 'US' to terminate the location's address.

In this treatment, we have left out the national designation (CA) at the end of each destination. This format represents the familiar form of postal address used by Canadians when sending domestic mail. Note that the provinces of Alberta (AB) and British Columbia (BC) have now joined in the fun.

And there are even more!

In Canada, we seem to have the propensity to name many of our towns and cities to highlight adjacent geographical features, e.g. Niagara Falls, Goose Bay, Rankin Inlet, Rainy River, Trois Rivieres, etc. The above collection honours that propensity, eh?

DEC 10 (2021) ONCOLOGY, second growths [4]

This blogpost represents continuation of earlier posts, entitled  'STAVING OFF NEOPLASIA: ONCOLOGY VERSES, first growths', displayed on December 10, 2020.

prior posted poems (first growths)
benign tumors, malignant tumors, cancerophobia, Pat's adenoma (image-guided biopsy).

CURRENT CONTENTS: (seond growths)
Hem-oncologists
Frei's syndrome (facial nerve palsy)
Hybrid PET-CT imaging for cancer
Plasmapheresis (new!)

Authors' Note:   Absorption of rays by body tissues complicates the interpretation of medical imaging with Positron Emission Tomography (PET). In equipment development since the year 2000, 'hybrid' scanners combine the nuclear camera with a CT x-ray unit that provides maps of attenuation; this technique for correction of attenuation (known to workers in the field as A.C.), makes PET more accurate in the detection of cancer. A potential limitation, the much lower energy of the photons used for x-ray CT, turns out to have little degrading effect in practical usage.

Moreover, anatomic localization of the lesion can be obtained at the same session, enabling techniques such as superposition of the ‘hot’ focus on a 3D anatomic body-map. This technique has been given  the difficult and somewhat redundant term ‘PET-CT’.

DEC 5 (2021): TOXIC VIGNETTES, #2 [5]

 CURRENT CONTENTS:

Fentanyl addiction
Moonshine
Naloxone
Methylated spirits (3 stanzas, a 'brief saga')
Workplace pollution (3 stanzas, a 'brief saga')

Authors' Note:  The toxic effects of illicit moonshine whiskey often result from the solder of car radiators, items that are conveniently incorporated into clandestine distilling equipment. Chronic kidney failure may be a delayed effect of repeated exposure to lead, cadmium and other heavy metals which leach into the brew from this source, allowing 'Whiskey Rick' and his ilk to escape responsibility for the most devastating effects of their concoctions.

 NALOXONE

There's an antidote med I'm advising

For opiate users demising

Inject stat: death's prevention.

Naloxone's a drug worth apprising.

'"E-L-E-C-T-I-O-N F-R-A-U-D" Anagrams: National CONTEST RESULTS

Over the last week we have had an anagram contest at the national (U.S.) level. We apologize to readers who missed the opportunity to participate.

The challenge was to come up with the best anagram (letter-scramble) of

E-L-E-C-T-I-O-N F-R-A-U-D

Out of an abundance of caution, we avoided announcing the contest initially, and have not required contest participants to agree to publishing their phone numbers, email addresses or charge-card PINs.

But we are now pleased to announce that the WINNING ENTRY nationally was ...

FAILED RECOUNT
Consideration was also given by the judges to the best entry for each participating state; the winning entries are shown on the accompanying map.

Sincere thanks to all who participated.

The national RUNNER-UP for best anagram is...
OUTLINED FARCE
