CURRENT CONTENTS (March 5, 2025)
Hike
Hop to it
Hover
Lurk
Reverse
Scamper (seduction)

poetry lyrics:/ Ambulation? Appraising the hike./ Terrain skaters and dancers
don't like./ Rocky beach, cliffside paths,/ Jungly thickets (no grass)./
"Boots will suit such adventure!" touts Mike.

poetry lyrics:/ Ambulation? The hop (let's review it):/ Miming bunnies,
small tots love to do it./ (Hind-leg push, airborne flop/ Then regroup with each stop)./
Grownups, pressed, choose this gait/ When they're gonna be late;/
All digressions they drop, and hop to it.

Authors' Note:

do a 180:
a colloquialism for reversing direction deriving from half the number of degrees in a complete circle; here, as elsewhere, voiced as one-eighty

The author, an old palindromist, finds it appropriate to mention in the context of 'doing a 180', a few palindromic phrases that use the verb reverse. These include:
Codes reverse, Doc; Noses reverse, son; Dikes reverse, kid;
Drawer: sides reversed is ... reward; and the very dark
Nooses reverse soon.

MAR 5 (2025): POETS" CORNER: fourth angle [4]

This blogpost is a continuation of verse from the collections 'POETS' CORNER', as posted on this blog March 5, 2022 (first angle), March 5, 2023 (second angle), and March 5, 2024 (third angle).

previous poetic posts (Note that captions are available for poems displayed on slides in "Daily Illustrated Nonsense" as of  2024).

(first angle): addiction to limerick writing, authorly skill, blogosphere, bold faced/bald-faced, cans and can'ts (argumentatively), collaboration.

(second angle): creative writing, depressed limericist, doggerel ("brief sagas'), editorial balking, editorial state "Held", (the poet's) family.

(third angle): free verse, gender-neutral language, inventiveness, noun-verb contractions, philosophy of limericks.

CURRENT CONTENTS (fourth angle)

Satirical doggerel
Subtle editorial bullying
Summary
Wit's end

Authors' Note: Used here in a loose sense, with no implications for ownership, 'collaborative' refers to a group effort by like-minded individuals. Collaborative writing sites, such as the on-line dictionary OEDILF (nursery for many of Giorgio's concoctions), have the potential advantage to contributors of learning from peers, and ultimately higher rates of publication. Contributing editors ('eds'), however, may entertain estimations of their personal relevance and productivity that influence their editorial comments on others' work. Rarely, such notions are translated into malevolent actions by these poet-leaders.

FEB 15 (2025): HERPETOLOGIC (reptilian) VERSE#3, third slither [5]

This post is a continuation of the collection of poems 'REPTILES' as displayed on this blog February 15, 2023 (slither #1), and February 15, 2024 (slither #2).

previous poetic posts (Note that captions are available for versions of the poems displayed on "Daily Illustrated Nonsense" since January 2024).

(first slither): amphisbaenians, autotomy, beneficial snakes, broad-headed skinks, brown anoles.

(second slither): Carolina anoles, crocodilians, eastern glass lizards, eviction notice, fence lizards, five-lined skinks.

CURRENT CONTENTS (#3)
Geckos (on the ceiling)
Gila monsters
Going green
Herpetophobes
Leaping lizards

Authors' Note: A profusion of tiny setae (filament-hairs) on the lizards' palm-pads, as shown by electron microscopy, explain the gecko's unusual gravity-defying mobility.

Authors' Note: Gila monsters are found in southern California, Arizona and northern Mexico. They should enjoy ongoing changes in our climate.

green anole, appearing gray, climbing down fencepost

same anole, 2 minutes later

Authors' Note:

ophidiophobia: an extreme or incapacitating fear of snakes

herpetophobia: a similar anxiety disorder extending to all reptiles

The reptilian suborder Serpentes was previously known as Ophidia, a term derived from ophis, Greek for 'snake'.

Authors' Note:  'Leapin' Lizards' was a classic idiom used to express surprise, long before it was suspected that birds had evolved from reptiles!

Nature-lovers , academic herpetologists, wordplay enthusiasts, wildlife photographers, Giorgio's relatives, and just everyday folks have united in their demand for more verses on this topic!

FEB 10 (2025): Progress in Poetry: "LIMERRHOIDS" (C-rhyme extension)

We're hoping with this blogpost to provide you with more understanding and some helpful examples related to a type of  limerick-variation indulged in by the authors. To see the whole spectrum of our efforts, you might want to take the time to review "A Corner of the Poet's World: LIMERICK VARIATIONS".

Note that "limerrhoid" is a neologism, i.e. a concocted word invented by the authors for an extended limerick verse; it has no genuine medical significance, although it sounds as if it should. And, before you proceed to learn about limerrhoids, you might want to review the simpler concept of extended 7-line limericks that result from the incorporation of "extra" pairs of lines with A-or B-rhymes, usually at the end of the stanza. We do also indulge in these less sophisticated entities, and we have collected them for you; click HERE for "Run-On Limericks".

Authors' Note: an apocryphal tale. The authors offer their apologies to any extant persons in Ireland or elsewhere named Seamus O'Malley, or their descendants.

The above verse also appears in the blogged collection of  'Poetic Non-Sequiturs', aand at OEDILF #125808.

The above verse also appears in the blogged collection of verse "Pandemic Poetry", and on OEDILF at #124900.

Further collections of "limerrhoid" verses by the authors, using an extended limerick format, have been compiled for readers; click HERE.
